When Derek Carr dislocated his right pinkie a few weeks back, every Oakland Raiders fan held their breath. The franchise was in full pursuit of their first postseason appearance in 14 years (which they clinched this Sunday); the thought of losing Carr was too much to bear.

Luckily, Carr came back into that game and has played every down since. But, there have been some consequences.

Carr's injury is preventing him from taking part in the very activity that caused it: taking snaps under center. Every offensive play has been run in the shot gun or pistol, save for a successful attempt to draw the Chargers offside.

It's far from a detrimental circumstance for Oakland, but head coach Jack Del Rio admitted that it has caused some issues.

From Paul Gutierrez of ESPN:

“Yes, it is somewhat of an issue,” Del Rio acknowledged after Sunday's victory. “It is not ideal. Being completely honest about it, it is an issue that we are working through, but it is the way we’re choosing to work through it right now.

In particular, it's difficult for Oakland to run power running plays in the red zone out of the pistol, as noted by Raiders broadcaster Greg Papa.

If it was up to Carr, he would be taking snaps under center right away:

“I did it in pregame,” Carr said Sunday of taking snaps from under center. “I have no limitations. This is just what we’ve been doing.”

As Del Rio went on, he admitted that they'll line Carr back up under center some where down the road:

“At some point, we will feel better about going under center, we will; but until then, we’ll execute the best we can out of the formations we feel most comfortable with.”
