Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp is having one of the best seasons from a wideout in recent memory. Kupp has been sensational in 2021, and could stand to shatter some significant records in Week 18 of the season. Given the NFL extended its regular season by one week, Kupp's stats at the end of the year will reflect 17 games of work, rather than the 16 games that were played in past seasons. When asked about the impact of an extra game on his impending records, Kupp had a rather refreshing take, via Jourdan Rodrigue.

Rather than boast about his accomplishments and the fact that he's secured his place in NFL history, Kupp took a more humbled approach, offering praise to the great receivers who paved the way for his successes. Kupp referenced the likes of Michael Thomas, Randy Moss, and Calvin Johnson as players who truly dominated across 16-game seasons, before admitting “it wouldn't seem right” for their records to be considered broken.

On the year, Kupp leads the league in multiple receiving categories, including receptions (138), receiving yards (1,829), and receiving touchdowns (15). Just because he's proven himself to be the league's best wide receiver in 2021, he hasn't let his play get to his head, as Kupp is still showing just as much love and respect to the previous trailblazers at his position.

So, while Kupp can go on to set some impressive records given the additional 17th game on the schedule, he won't be trying to compare his feats to that of players in past seasons. Instead, Kupp feels that he's playing in a “new era” and that this season should set the bar for future stats measured across a 17-game campaign.
