The 2021 NFL Draft is already a topic for several teams projected to make their selection in the top 10, and the Philadelphia Eagles are one of the more intriguing squads to watch after the benching of Carson Wentz.
On the daily Locked On NFL Draft podcast, Benjamin Solak and Trevor Sikkema discussed what the Eagles could do in the draft:
Solak: So, they pulled Carson Wentz. He’s been bad. Jalen Hurts is now the starter against the Saints. Hurts, hopefully, will get four games this season. I am not even sold that he will. They will not commit to him as the starter for the rest of the season.
Sikkema: That’d be weird.
Solak: Yeah, this team is really weird.
Sikkema: It’d be weird if they did not. I want to make that clear.
Solak: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, you have Hurts against the Saints. Many have said that it is unlikely that it is a good game for him. That is a pretty tough defense against you for your first start. The Eagles spent the 53rd overall pick on Jalen Hurts, so that of course was the Roseman and Peterman guard.
There’s a new guard in Philadelphia, which begs the question, do they see enough from Hurts through four weeks to cater a coaching staff around him? Do they bring in a coaching staff with the idea of resuscitating Carson Wentz and trying to revive his career? There is a lot that’s still unknown in Philadelphia. They are going to have to consider taking a quarterback. It has to be on the table. Because you do not often end up picking in the top five or top six. You do not always have a class with Zach Wilson or Trey Lance available at quarterback, right? You are in this position with this class. It is going to have to be a conversation.
