The San Francisco 49ers have been taking part in offseason workouts recently as they gear up for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. One of the biggest storylines for the 49ers this summer has been the saga of Brandon Aiyuk, who remains under contract with the team amid trade and release rumors.
Aiyuk has not been shy about making his feelings on the matter known, and recently, the star took to social media once again with a message for the 49ers amid his alleged interest in joining the Washington Commanders.
“If I’m crazy or if I’m cappin’, tell them boys cut me today and I’ll sign with the Commanders tomorrow. We’ll see who’s cappin',” said Aiyuk on Instagram, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team on X, formerly Twitter.
Many have projected the Commanders to be a sensible landing spot for Aiyuk if he is indeed cut by the 49ers at some point in the near future. Aiyuk hasn't played since the 2024 season, when a devastating leg injury cut his campaign short and forced him to miss the entirety of the 2025 season. Even prior to that point, he had been in some shaky waters with the 49ers when discussing a new contract.
However, when healthy, Aiyuk remains a talented wide receiver who is sure to have some suitors besides just the Commanders if he were to hit the open market. Meanwhile, the 49ers are looking to build off last year's trip to the divisional round, which resulted in a blowout loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
The 49ers' 2026 season is slated to get underway in early September.
