The Vancouver Canucks are turning to their past in an effort to turn the franchise around. After finishing with the worst record in the NHL last season, the Canucks have brought in a new management team to help the team recover. Henrik and Daniel Sedin, two of the best players in Canucks history, have been brought in to serve as the co-presidents of the team.

The Canucks have also hired Ryan Johnson as the team's general manager. Team owner Francesco Aquilini welcomed the Sedin twins back to the team they played for from 2001 through 2018. “For the past 26 years, Daniel and Henrik have dedicated their entire professional hockey careers to Vancouver,” Aquilini said, per NHL.com. “Whether it's as players or in various management positions, they've always committed themselves to excellence.”

The two brothers were selected by the Canucks with the No. 2 and 3 draft choices in 1999. They both became franchise icons for the Canucks with their consistent play. Both brothers were selected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022. Daniel scored a team record 393 goals for the Canucks and is second in points with 1,041. Henrik is the team's all-time leader with 1,070 points and he potted 240 goals.

The brothers intend to change the culture for the Canucks. “We have a clear vision that will connect us to being a sustainable winning culture,” the Sedins said.

Johnson is replacing Patrick Allvin, who was fired from the general manger position at the conclusion of the season. The Sedin brothers are replacing team president Jim Rutherford. He will step down from his position after the conclusion of the upcoming draft in late June.

The Canucks have failed to make the playoffs in five of the last six seasons and 9 of the last 11 years.
