Kroenke Sports and Entertainment is overhauling its Denver Nuggets broadcast team. In an abrupt decision, they announced that they would be parting ways with several longtime members of their Altitude Sports broadcast.
Lead play-by-play man Chris Marlowe, who has spent 22 seasons as the voice of the Nuggets, will not be returning next season. The network launched in 2004, and Marlowe has been the lead voice ever since. An Olympic gold medalist in volleyball, Marlowe was also the lead play-by-play announcer for beach volleyball at seven Olympics, most recently for NBC in 2024. He was also named Colorado Sportscaster of the Year in 2023.
“All good things must come to an end,” Marlowe wrote via social media. “Altitude Sports is moving in a different direction and decided not to renew my contract. It has been a wonderful 22-year run, and I want to thank everyone who was there along the way, especially the fans. I'm not retiring and this is not goodbye — it's just so long for now.”
Alongside Marlowe, color commentator Scott Hastings will also not be back on the Nuggets broadcasts. Hastings began his career in the Denver broadcast scene in 1993 after retiring from playing in the NBA. His final two seasons as a player were with the Nuggets. Despite being removed from the broadcast, Hastings will remain on his Altitude Sports Radio show.
Studio analyst Chris Dempsey has also been let go. Katy Winge and Vic Lombardi are expected to remain on the broadcast.
In a statement to The Denver Post, KSE Media Ventures president Steve Smith called all three “outstanding ambassadors” for the organization whose work helped “shape how generations of fans experience Nuggets basketball.”
