The Denver Nuggets are currently in talks with their starting shooting guard, Gary Harris, for a contract extension that will allow them to retain his services in the coming years. It’s no secret that they think highly of him, and see him as a big part of their future plans.

General manager Arturas Karnisovas recently shared, via Gina Mizell of the Denver Post, that both parties are nearing an agreement on a new deal. He also added that they want him to remain with the Mile High City for as long as possible, especially with him being the ultimate professional.

“He’s been such a huge part of what we’re trying to do here, a representation of what we’re building here,” Karnisovas said. “Him going through trade rumors and still staying with us and being consistent and being a good leader for our guys and (knowing) how to do it, he was the ultimate professional.

“We’re trying to find ways to keep him here as long as we can.”

Harris is entering his fourth season with the Nuggets after they selected him 19th overall in the 2014 draft. He is coming off his best year as a pro, averaging career highs with 14.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, to go along with 1.2 steals in 31.3 minutes.

At only 23 years old, he has already shown a lot of improvement and maturity in his game. Together with center Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets are hoping Harris will form a partnership that could bring success to the franchise in the future.
