Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon was diagnosed with a torn left rectus femoris this past Saturday. The injury occurred during the second quarter of last Wednesday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks. His status is listed as week-to-week, according to the team.

The rectus femoris is the large quadriceps muscle running down the middle of the front of the thigh. Its function is to lift up the knee and straighten the leg. Pain will come on gradually, which will likely be located at the front of the hip.

Interestingly though, the 2017 NBA Rookie of the Year said he'll be ready for the playoffs despite the injury.

“I feel great about being back for postseason, being full speed, being in rhythm,” Malcolm Brogdon said, via Indy Star. “There's no doubt in my mind.”

In his first season with the Pacers, Brogdon is averaging 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists. He’s shooting 43.9 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from beyond the arc and 89.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The Pacers are 30-18 with Brogdon in the lineup and 39-25 overall on the season. They are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Once the playoffs start, the Pacers will ultimately go as far as Brogdon and All-Star shooting guard Victor Oladipo can guide them. Oladipo is putting up 12.7 points on 37.2 percent shooting from the floor in the 12 games he has played in this season so far.

The Pacers are going to need Oladipo to round into All-Star form sooner rather than later now that Brogdon is out.
