The Detroit Pistons will be in the market for a point guard this offseason. Minnesota Timberwolves point man Derrick Rose will become a free agent this offseason and be among their options, which the front office will debate as July 1 approaches, according to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press.

Rose is coming off a resurgent season in the Twin Cities, shooting a career-best 37% from deep and putting together plenty of flashes of his former brilliance, including a 50-point game early in the season.

The former 2011 MVP is likely get a raise from the $2.1 million salary he made this season under the veteran's minimum, and be rewarded for his more-than-successful campaign, which will put him among the names worth considering for many teams in search of a point guard.

Rose has welcomed playing either guard position, given how the NBA has become a small-ball game. At 6-foot-3, Rose can contain most shooting guards who don't have a massive height advantage over him.

The 30-year-old averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 2018-19 through 51 games before an elbow injury cut his season short. Rose underwent surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow a month ago and is expected to be ready for the upcoming season.

With Ish Smith likely departing and Jose Calderon's contract coming off the books, the Pistons will also consider other targets like Seth Curry, Ricky Rubio, Patrick Beverley and T.J. McConnell.
