The Purdue Boilermakers are making some noise on the recruiting trail. Emmanuel Dowuona, a 4-star prospect out of the 2018 recruiting class, has committed to the program.
A talented big man, he made his announcement on the mean streets of Twitter.
With Vince Edwards and Isaac Haas entering their senior seasons, Purdue really had to focus on bringing in some potential replacements. Those aforementioned front court players are both productive and important cogs in the Boilermakers wheel. While a freshman is unlikely to fill those voids immediately, Purdue had to start somewhere.
Starting with Emmanuel Dowuona is as good a place to begin as anywhere, really.
Dowuona, a 6-foot-11 big who attends Westwood Christian School in Miami, joins fellow 4-star prospect Trevion Williams in Purdue’s 2018 class.
His commitment comes only days before he was reportedly to visit Tennessee.
Among the other programs to have offered Duwuona were Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami and UConn.
Considered a diamond in the rough on the offensive end, Dowuona played for the Team Breakdown program on the Under Armour Association circuit during the summer, averaging 7.9 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game while shooting 59 percent from the field.
It will be interesting to see how he is worked into the fold when he hits campus next September. Do the Boilermakers take it slow with him, attempting to build his offensive arsenal in the process, or will he be immediately hurled in the fire?
Boilermakers head coach, Matt Painter, has a reputation of developing big men properly. This is probably a talent you want to keep an eye on.
