Jared Goff has to face the truth: The defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams failed to reach the postseason in 2019. A 9-7 record was not good enough to qualify for the playoffs.

Despite the downer of an ending for the regular season, Rams franchise quarterback Jared Goff exclaimed that the team found a “new identity” in the final stretch of the year on offense.

Per Cameron DaSilva in Rams Wire, this is what Jared Goff said:

“It’s supposed to look like how it looked today. How it looked today, how it a handful of the last weeks, if you take out Dallas. I think since we played Arizona, we kind of did find a new identity. I think ultimately, we found different ways to win games,” he said after Sunday’s season finale.

“I think that’s the biggest thing we can take away, is that we were so specific the last two seasons and then this year, we had to find different ways to win. Teams figured some stuff out where we had to adjust,” he continued. “We did adjust and we adjusted well, just unfortunately, we were one game short, two games short, whatever you want to call it. That’s the way it goes.”

The Minnesota Vikings earned the NFC's second and final wild card spot at 10-6, making the Rams and Jared Goff oh-so close to snatching another trip to contend for a second consecutive Super Bowl.

Jared Goff, 25, finished the season with 4,638 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions in his fourth year in the NFL for the former first-overall pick of the 2016 draft out of California.

The offense, though, appears to be heading into the pass-heavy direction under Jared Goff, instead of constantly feeding ex-Offensive Player of the Year Todd Gurley, a running back who regressed in 2019 and was mostly ineffective in the run game.

Jared Goff can say that the Rams improved late in the season, but Los Angeles didn't face the same level of pressure it encountered earlier in the season.
