The Colorado Rockies are entertaining trade offers for All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado, and the Texas Rangers are among the teams talking about a blockbuster deal.

Via Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic:

The Rangers are among the clubs talking to the Rockies about Arenado, according to major-league sources. The loser of the Donaldson’s tug-of-war between the Braves and Nationals would be another possibility. Both the Cardinals and Dodgers have a longstanding interest in Arenado, though Dodgers officials believe there is little chance the Rockies would trade him within the division.

The Rangers had been among the highest bidders for Anthony Rendon, but they were unwilling to commit to a seventh year, and Rendon ultimately signed with the Los Angeles Angels. Texas is still looking to fill a void at the hot corner, and Arenado is becoming an increasingly popular trade target, according to Rosenthal.

Arenado just signed an eight-year, $260 million extension with the Rockies last winter, and he still has $234 million left on his deal. Rosenthal reported that while the Rockies might have to pay down some of his salary to actually get a deal done, they may be more open to trading him due to Arenado's pending opt-out in 2022 as well as Colorado's steadily rising payroll.

The 28-year-old has been a model of consistency. He has hit at least 37 homers in each of the last five seasons while winning seven straight Gold Glove awards in his first seven seasons. There are concerns about Arenado's home-road splits, but he still posted an .866 OPS away from Coors Field.

Can the Rangers offer a competitive package? The Atlanta Braves have better prospect capital to play with, but the Rangers might be willing to absorb more salary.
