A lot has been said about the Ben Simmons drama surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers. Fans and experts alike have theorized as to why Simmons is so against going back to the Sixers, with some pointing out and claiming that the comments made by Doc Rivers and Joel Embiid after the 2021 playoff exit caused the strained relationship.
There was also a report that Simmons is done playing with Embiid, believing he would be better off without the Cameroonian center.
However, according to the latest report by Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Simmons' agent Rich Paul has made it clear to the Sixers the reason for his client's trade demand.
“The Sixers asked why Simmons wanted out, and Paul informed them that the point guard was mentally exhausted. The source believes they didn’t pay attention to Simmons’ state of mind or feelings about being in Philly because of the four years remaining on his contract.”
Ben Simmons has thwarted all efforts of the Sixers to bring him back to Philadelphia, so it is quite clear his problems with the team are deep and serious. This latest report is consistent with a previous revelation made by Brian Windhorst of ESPN, noting that the Australian star doesn't want to suit up and play in front of Philly fans ever again.

With the way things are going, it sure looks like it's really over for Simmons and the Sixers, a view which has been held by a lot of people in and around the NBA since the season ended. Only a trade could probably end the drama, though there hasn't been a lot of progress on that end as well. According to a recent rumor, Philadelphia's talks with other teams are nearly dead, so the 25-year-old playmaker might have to wait for a long time before anything happens.
