Noah Vonleh and Andre Roberson both seemingly ticked a few boxes that the Nets needed in frontcourt help and perimeter defense. But after signing both veterans just weeks prior, they’re already letting go.</p><p>However, Shams Charania of The Athletic is reporting that this isn’t the last the team will see of Roberson and Shumpert. However, the past few years have not been kind to the 29-year-old after suffering from a left patellar tendon injury in 2018.</p><p>Andre Roberson, who was actually a starter for the Thunder, missed the rest of the 2017-18 season. He also had to sit out the whole 2018-19 campaign due to a setback in his injury recovery.</p><p>Before his exit with the Thunder and eventually finding himself signing with the Nets, Roberson played seven games in 2019-20 with the Thunder. However, he was never really given a chance to get things going after more than two seasons sidelined.</p><p>Roberson was released in the 2020 offseason as the Thunder become sellers and entered a rebuild. Given his age and injury history, OKC knew he just doesn’t fit their timeline with youngsters like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Darius Bazley and Lu Dort.</p><p>Nonetheless, the Nets’ signing of Roberson makes sense given their need for bench depth and defense. While he is never really known as a scorer, the former Colorado standout is a solid defender, as proven by  his NBA All-Defensive Second Team plum in 2017.</p><p>Roberson has career averages of 4.6 points and 4.0 rebounds 302 games (269 starts) with Oklahoma City.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But, if nothing else, he gives the Thunder added length especially on the defensive end of the floor.</p><p>Meanwhile, it is Chris Paul whose presence has really altered the course of OKC’s season.</p><p>It was suggested Paul might seek a trade when the Thunder acquired him from the Houston Rockets in exchange for Russell Westbrook last summer. Instead, CP3 remained in OKC and helped the franchise achieve the fifth-best record in the Western Conference entering the restart.</p><p>Paul has certainly been productive. Prior to the NBA suspension last March, he was averaging 17.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists. He has also been one of the best clutch performers in the league.</p><p>Moreover, Paul has set the tone with his leadership. They can hurt opposing teams in a variety of ways.</p><p>But Roberson makes the Thunder that much tougher defensively. Guys like Darius Bazley, Luguentz Dort and Nerlens Noel have all been interesting defensive playmakers. Now, Roberson figures to get some minutes as the Thunder add to their bench.</p><p>Of course, Roberson can open up the floor if he continues to shoot the 3-ball efficiently. Paul and Gilgeous-Alexander are at their best when they can get into the paint, so adding another floor-spacing option would provide even more opportunities for them while allowing Steven Adams to wreak havoc on the offensive glass.</p><p>If Roberson can actually prove he’s a threat from outside, that would make the Thunder that much more dangerous. He had terrible luck in his recovery from a ruptured left patellar tendon he suffered during the 2017-18 campaign, as the Thunder swingman sustained two setbacks in his left knee last season.</p><p>However, Roberson never gave up and continued to work hard despite all the negative noise the media was spewing.</p><p>In 295 games with the Thunder, Roberson has career averages of 4.6 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 48.2 percent from the field, 25.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 46.7 percent from the free-throw line.</p><p>Before he got hurt in 2017-18, Roberson was one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA. He made the 2017 All-Defensive team and was rewarded by the Thunder with a three-year, $30 million deal prior to the start of the 2017-18 campaign.</p><p>Once the 2020 playoffs start after the conclusion of the eight seeding games, the Thunder will ultimately go as far as Chris Paul, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Danilo Gallinari can lead the team offensively.
