The Pittsburgh Steelers are expecting Ben Roethlisberger to return next season and Steelers GM Kevin Colbert made some interesting comments pertaining to the veteran quarterback. During the week of the NFL Combine, Colbert revealed an update on Roethlisberger's health heading into the 2020 season.

Just a few days ago, the Steelers released a video of Roethlisberger throwing a football. While he appears to be in less-than-ideal shape, seeing him throw is a positive sign in his recovery process.

Early in the 2019 season, the former first-round pick sustained a season-ending elbow injury. After suffering the injury, Roethlisberger elected to undergo elbow surgery.

Amid Roethlisberger's injury, the Steelers were inclined to turn to Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges in 2019. As a result, Pittsburgh failed to make the postseason despite having an elite defense.

Even though he's coming off of a serious elbow injury, Colbert believes that Roethlisberger could come back even stronger in 2020. As optimistic as Colbert is trying to be, it's tough to believe that he'll be better at this point in his career.

Since 2015, the Steelers have only been able to have Roethlisberger available for all 16 games just once. Altogether, the tough-nosed quarterback has been sidelined for a total of 21 games in the last five seasons.

However, just two years ago, Roethlisberger was able to throw for 5,129 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2018. As good as Roethlisberger once was, it's safe to say that he's nearing the end of his career. Regardless of where he currently is in his recovery, it would be nearly impossible to be worse than what the Steelers had in 2019.
