The corner from Fort Worth, Texas, is the second-ranked recruit in the nation, and the crown jewel of the recruiting class for Steve Sarkisian. He is also the third defensive player in the top 100 to commit to texas is this recruiting cycle.
Meredith was recently ruled ineligible for his senior season after transferring from North Crowley from Euless Trinity in January, according to Greg Riddle of the Dallas Morning News.
“North Crowley five-star cornerback John Meredith III, the No. 1 recruit in the Dallas area and one of the premier players in the country, has been ruled ineligible for varsity football for next season,” Riddle announced
He was deemed ineligible for transferring for athletic purposes. While he will likely not be playing in his senior year of high school football, he will focus on making an impact on the Longhorns in 2027. He is also expected to appeal the decision on his eligibility.
The commitment gives Texas two five-star players in the class, with top receiver in the nation Easton Royal also joining in the class of 2027. Overall, Texas has 11 blue-chip recruits, with two-five stars, and another four four-star recruits. They have 16 commitments overall, which gives them the seventh-best class in the 2027 cycle.
