In a Q&A session for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, Square Enix outlined some information about the new series of remasters. First off, they reiterated that the release will be on Steam, iOS, and Android only. Of course, until there is “enough demand” to bring them to consoles.

This seems to be a tone-deaf statement, as Final Fantasy games have always been at home for consoles. This criticism has been around since Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters at E3. I mean, who wouldn't want to play these classic JRPGs on the Valve Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch? Final Fantasy games have also been launched first on PlayStation systems since FFVII for the PS1.

It seems quite strange for Square Enix to imply that there isn't a demand for these games on consoles and handhelds. However, there might also be other factors that they don't want to disclose.

The official announcement page for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster states:

“The FINAL FANTASY Pixel Remaster series will comprise FINAL FANTASY I through FINAL FANTASY VI, with each game releasing individually. For long-term fans that will be hugely exciting news – a chance to revisit some of their most beloved RPGs of all time in a way that perfectly captures the spirit of those original games.”

They will feature an updated UI, remastered soundtrack, and additional content. The Pixel Remaster versions for Final Fantasy I, II, and III will release on July 29, 2021. Currently, there is no release date set yet for the Pixel Remasters of Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI. Additionally, you may already pre-order the full bundle on Steam for $95.94.
