Kevin Durant may be the most potent offensive weapon that Oklahoma City Thunder fans have ever seen. There's almost no point in getting into a debate about that. On Tuesday against the Utah Jazz, however, Lu Dort just forged himself beside Durant for a long-standing scoring record.

Per Stat Muse, Dort's 42-point explosion is right behind Durant's outburst before he turned 22. Though it came at a 106-96 loss, Dort surely made Thunder fans proud with his epic performance.

Lu Dort shot 16-of-31 from the field, 7-of-11 from deep, and 3-of-7 from the free-throw line for the Thunder. He started off the game with a quick 18-point outburst in the first quarter. At one point, he even had more points than the entire Jazz squad combined. It surely was an unexpected feat coming from the undrafted 21-year-old.

Just last season, he entered mainstream consciousness for his stellar defense on James Harden, as well as other stars. But little by little, Dort added a reliable offensive set to his game. He doesn't always go off like Durant, but he has gone a long way from being limited to a defensive role. Now, he's proven that he can actually score the ball.

“I've just been working on my game a lot,” the Thunder youngster said after the game, per Nick Crane of Sports Illustrated. “To prove and show that I've been improving felt good tonight.”

The Thunder currently sport a 20-34 record for 13th in the West. There's a very slim chance they'll make the playoffs, which would make it just the second time in 12 seasons. Despite this, Thunder fans should feel good about themselves as Dort may be a star in the making.
