Andrew Wiggins’ 5-year, $148 million extension is expected to be done by Saturday, Darren Wolfson reports after personally talking to Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor.

The Timberwolves’ training camp officially begins on Saturday, and both parties would likely want to settle this matter to focus on preparing for the new season.

Wiggins’ contract talks have been ongoing for basically the entire summer. The young Timberwolves star cut ties with his agent, Bill Duffy, last month after Duffy had negotiated the max extension which Wiggins has held off from signing.

The 22-year-old Wiggins won Rookie of the Year in 2015 and has upped his scoring in each of his first three years in the league. He put up 23.6 points while shooting 45 percent from the field and 35 percent on three-pointers last season. However, he still has to improve significantly on the defensive end to justify his new max deal.

If Wiggins does sign the contract, he will take up one of the Timberwolves’ two designated player slots which provides for a fifth year on their contract; the other is likely earmarked for big man Karl-Anthony Towns.
