Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Jeff Teague will return to the floor on Friday against the Orlando Magic, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. Meanwhile, forward Robert Covington, who was acquired as part of the Jimmy Butler trade, is expected to be out for an extended period after suffering a bone bruise.

Covington missed Wednesday's game against the Boston Celtics due to knee and ankle soreness, though it is still unknown where the bone bruise occurred. His absence depletes the Wolves of a capable defender that can take on multiple positions, as well as an avid 3-point shooter.

Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau doesn't know how much time his key three-and-D wing will miss but is glad he'll be able to avoid surgery.

Teague has missed the team's last nine games with an ankle injury and will be thrust right into the starting lineup, with the Wolves needing every bit of reinforcements possible.

After looking like a viable playoff candidate, Minnesota's chances have started to evaporate, now having lost nine of their last 13 games and sitting 13th in a tough Western Conference with a 17-21 record.

The Timberwolves have had one of the league's worst records on the road, winning only five of their 20 games, but they'll benefit by playing four of their next five at home after playing six of their last seven games away.

Teague will need to shoot the ball much better than he has this season, currently posting the worst field goal percentage of his career (38.4 percent) despite averaging a career-high in assists with 8.3 per game.
