With the February trade deadline fast approaching, Minnesota Timberwolves veteran wing Robert Covington has emerged as one of the hottest prospects on the market.

However, despite several teams showing interest in the services of the 6-foot-7 forward, Covington himself has declared that his focus remains on basketball:

“I’m not even focused on that,” Covington said, via The Athletic's Kelly Iko. “My main focus is with this team and what I do every day. I don’t get caught up in the rumors and hype and whatnot. Right now, I’m a Minnesota Timberwolf and that’s all my focus is (on).”

That's the noncommittal and relatively vague answer you'd expect from any veteran in the league. Covington acknowledged the rumors and did not sweep them under the rug. He is well aware of the interest of several teams have in him, and he made sure not to shut down any potential trade move.

However, Covington also reaffirmed his loyalty to his current team. The 29-year-old made his way to Minnesota in 2018 when he was traded by the Philadelphia 76ers as part of the Jimmy Butler deal. He has been with the Timberwolves for over a year now and currently boasts season averages of 12.7 points (on 44.2 percent shooting), 5.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.7 steals, and a block while also connecting on 2.2 3-pointers per game on a 35.0 percent clip.

While the Wolves are currently just two and a half games outside the playoff picture in the West, they are certainly not contenders. This fact might just be the primary reason why the team is willing to part ways with Robert Covington in exchange for some assets they could use in the future.
