As this season's trade deadline draws near, several organizations around the NBA landscape are searching for ways to bolster the respective rosters. The Minnesota Timberwolves will likely be among these teams, and they might be looking to trade Robert Covington as part of the process, according to a report from The Athletic.

The T-Wolves are “trying” to find upgrades, as one GM put it, and it appears Covington could be the piece that helps aid that cause. His deal has two more seasons remaining ($12.1 million and $12.9 million), and his two-way play is sure to inspire significant interest (although his long-range efficiency is down this season; 34.9 percent after 39 percent last season). Minnesota started 7-4, prompting talk of another playoff appearance from Karl-Anthony Towns on down, but has won just eight times in 26 tries since (to be fair, the T-Wolves have won five of their past eight – more hope!).

Interestingly, The Athletic's article pointed to the Lakers as a team that should take a look at acquiring Covington, who has averaged 12.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in his 36 appearances with the Timberwolves this season. Whether or not Los Angeles is actually interested is not clear, but RoCo could be a fine addition to their lineup.

As noted recently by ESPN’s Bobby Marks and Kevin Pelton, the Lakers should take a long look at this Covington option. Veteran T-Wolves point guard Jeff Teague (13.8 points, 6.3 assists per game) will likely draw interest, too, as he’s on an expiring deal and could add a little punch to any playoff team’s chances.

The Timberwolves will be back in action on Saturday, when they'll face off against the Houston Rockets. Tip-off inside the Toyota Center is set for 5:00 p.m. ET. Time will tell if they are able to use this game to propel forward in a positive way.
