It was just another day at the office for Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry during the All-Star festivities in Atlanta. He won the 3-Point Contest and put on an offensive clinic in the All-Star Game, where he effortlessly dropped 28 points in just 22 minutes.
Some questioned Curry's legacy coming into this season, but he has responded with a monster season and only continued that on Sunday. Per Tim Bontemps of ESPN, Curry dropped this truth bomb about his legacy after the All-Star Game:
“I have a lot to accomplish, but nothing to prove,” Curry said. “There's a subtle little difference there.”
He has a point.
Stephen Curry has so many accolades that his victory at the 3-Point Contest feels more like a footnote than a highlight. Fans would probably be surprised that he has only won the contest twice, with the first one back in 2015.
The sharpshooter has three championships and two league MVPs to his name. What makes the latter more impressive is that in the long and illustrious history of the league, he was the first to win it unanimously. At this point in his career, All-Star appearances and All-NBA selections are par for the course for Curry.
Curry does not figure in GOAT conversations often, but the one thing that can never be taken away from him is that he revolutionized the game, which LeBron James recognizes. Before he and the Warriors won it all in 2015, it was thought to be impossible for a jump-shooting team to reach that level. He made it possible by making long bombs so frequently that it flipped basketball on its head. Suddenly, players had to adapt to a more perimeter-oriented game or fizzle out.
If Stephen Curry called it a day right now, his legacy would already be secured and maybe grow even more.
