Kevin Durant caused quite a stir late last month when he took a shot at Under Armour by claiming that nobody wants to play while wearing their shoes. His statement caused the shoe and apparel giants' stock to drop by three percent, however, what surprised many was the fact that the reigning Finals MVP, who is one of Nike's most popular athletes, blasted Under Armour knowing that his teammate, Stephen Curry, endorses them.

The former back-to-back MVP remained mum on the shot Durant made, but he recently broke his silence in an interview with Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer, and made it clear that their affiliations with the sneaker brands do not mean they have issues inside the locker room. Curry also added that Durant is entitled to voice out his opinion, but whatever he said about his own brand doesn't necessarily mean it's true.

“This is nothing that is going to put a wrench in the locker room,” Curry said.

“I told him that he has a certain opinion based on his experience growing up in the Nike business. What that means when it comes to the competition among shoe brands and universities and the whole grassroots system and what not — he’s entitled to that opinion obviously…. But when it comes to what I’m trying to do with Under Armour, and what the Curry brand means and what Under Armour basketball means, that statement does not ring true at all.”

Despite both playing for the Golden State Warriors, and even winning a title together, the two represent different brands who gave them their own shoe lines. However, that does not seem to affect their relationship as they proved last season that they can co-exist together, and still be effective on the floor — a testament to the team's tight bond.

Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are both signed by Under Armour and Nike, respectively, on long term deals, and seeing them switch to different brands appear to be a long shot. For the Oakland faithful, the good news for them is their superstar point guard made it clear that the comments won't affect the team's dynamics, and they are are still focused on winning more championships in the coming years.
