Ahead of their series opener against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday, the Chicago White Sox reinstated catcher Kyle Teel from the 60-day injured list. The move came after Chicago was swept by the Detroit Tigers that dropped the team out of first place in the American League Central.

Teel had been out of action all season and will rejoin the major league roster as the White Sox fill a vacancy on the 40-man roster.

Teel suffered a right hamstring strain on March 10 while playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic against the United States. His return timeline was initially estimated at four to six weeks, but during a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on May 16, he sustained a sprained lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, extending his recovery. He was subsequently transferred to the 60-day injured list on May 19 and has not played a regular-season MLB game in 2026.

During his most recent rehab stint with the Charlotte Knights, Teel appeared in four games and went 8-for-16 (.500), adding one home run, four RBIs, and five runs scored. He also recorded a five-hit performance in a game at Buffalo on Friday. In his 2025 rookie MLB season, Teel batted .273/.375/.411 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs across 78 games, including 11 doubles, 38 runs scored, and 37 walks.

To make room on the roster, Chicago optioned catcher Edgar Quero to Triple-A Charlotte. Quero, 23, has struggled at the plate in 2026, hitting .187/.253/.233 with two home runs, 15 RBIs, and 12 runs over 55 games. Across 172 plate appearances this season, he has produced three extra-base hits (two home runs and one double). White Sox catchers have collectively posted a .167/.241/.268 slash line so far this season.

Teel was acquired in the December 2024 trade that sent left-hander Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox. The deal also brought Chase Meidroth, Braden Montgomery, and Wikelman Gonzalez to Chicago. Meidroth has since taken over the starting second base role, while Montgomery continues to settle in at the MLB level.

The White Sox entered Monday at 39–37, sitting one game behind the Guardians (41-37) for first place in the AL Central. The team also holds the second Wild Card position in the American League standings.
