Serena Williams is planning a return to Wimbledon after last playing in last year's event. Williams was forced to retire from her first-round Wimbledon match last year because of an injury, and she hasn't played since.

But Tuesday morning, she took to Instagram to hint at her upcoming return:

As noted by CNN, “SW19 is the postcode district in Southwest London incorporating Wimbledon, among other boroughs.”

The official Wimbledon Twitter account then announced that Williams has been granted a wild-card entry:

Serena Williams will officially return to the court in a doubles event next week in Eastbourne. Williams will be pairing up with Tunisia's Ons Jabeur in the LTA's Rothesay International. The 40-year-old will use that as a tuneup event.

Williams is a 23-time major champion, with seven Wimbledon titles to her name. She last won the famous London tournament in 2016 and last reached the final in 2019, when she lost to Simona Halep.

It remains to be seen just how much Williams has left in the tank, but she's clearly determined to compete again and didn't want to end her career on a down note with that injury in 2021. This will be fascinating to watch as one of the legends of the sport gets back out there.
