The 2026 class of NBA draftees is projected to be one of the best classes in NBA history, and AJ Dybantsa wants to be the top pick. In a recent interview with Dev In The Lab, he made it clear that he sees himself as the top pick in the NBA draft.

“Yeah, I actually think this is one of the best drafts in I don't even know how many years. People probably say 15, like I think we really on that. But no, I definitely want, I definitely want the number one pick.”

Dybantsa has heard the conversations about how it doesn't matter which position you're drafted in, but he wants to continue his streak of being number one

“Like, people wanna say…it doesn't matter the draft pick. Yeah, you're right, it don't matter like what your draft pick as long as you get there. But I've been number one my whole life. I've been number one since I got ranked in eight grade, and I'm trying to keep that.”

Dybantsa established himself as one of the nation's top offensive players during the season, averaging 25 points per game across 35 appearances while shooting 51 percent from the floor. He also contributed 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest, showcasing his all-around impact.

Dybantsa has also shown a commitment to watching film, as he spoke in the interview about taking inspiration from several NBA stars.

“My favorite player is Kevin Durant. But he's super, like, unmimicable. So I do watch his film though, 'cause like you gotta watch KD film. But I watch a lot of, right now, [Anthony] Edwards and Shai for, like, buckets. Um, and for reads, Luka and Cade.”

Time will tell if Dybantsa will be the top draft pick in his class but he's taking on the mantle of one to be the best, which could take him far in the league.
