Washington Wizards All-Star shooting guard Bradley Beal will miss another game on Friday night against the Portland Trail Blazers at home. According to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington, the 26-year-old had a “setback” with his right lower leg soreness.

Beal is listed as day-to-day after making an appearance in New Year's Day's road loss to the Orlando Magic. Before that, the eighth-year veteran swingman missed back-to-back games against the New York Knicks and Miami Heat to close out 2019.

The former third overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft has averaged a career-best 27.8 points and 6.6 assists per game in 2019-20, shooting 43.5% from the field and 31.5% from 3-point range. Beal appeared in two consecutive seasons of all 82 games for the Wizards the past two years before snapping his active streak with the back-to-back absences versus the Knicks and Heat. Washington's roster has taken a hit with injuries to their starting backcourt, with John Wall presumed to miss the entire 2019-20 campaign.

The “right leg soreness” may have been first observed last week in a blowout loss to the Detroit Pistons. In that game, head coach Scott Brooks yanked his All-Star Beal in the eventual-30-point defeat and told reporters after the contest that he was nursing soreness in his right leg.

“Right lower leg soreness. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow and evaluate it. He wanted to keep playing but the bottom line is we were down a big number, so it’s wise to let him sit out the rest of the game.”

The Wizards, at 10-23, host the Blazers on Friday evening and welcome the Denver Nuggets tomorrow.
