The league has added new storylines and seen increased competition across the standings as several franchises have exceeded expectations through the first month and a half of play. A strong week can still dramatically alter the landscape of these power rankings, but as the season approaches its midpoint, the hierarchy across the league is beginning to take shape.

1. Atlanta Dream (+3)

Atlanta has quietly become one of the season's biggest success stories. The Dream have combined elite wing play with improved offensive efficiency, and their recent stretch of three wins in a row has elevated them from playoff hopeful to legitimate contender. Those three consecutive games also had scores over the century mark, showcasing just how dangerous this offense can be. If Atlanta continues generating points at this rate, the Dream will challenge the WNBA's traditional powers for a spot in the Finals.

2. Minnesota Lynx (+1)

Minnesota remains the team everyone is chasing. Even after suffering a surprising loss to the Washington Mystics over the weekend, the Lynx still own the W's best record and have consistently handled elite competition. Their defensive discipline and ability to win in multiple styles make them the most complete team in the league. One setback doesn't erase a stretch that has featured dominant performances against fellow contenders like the Golden State Valkyries. Until another team proves it can maintain its streak of excellence longer than Minnesota has, the Lynx stay near the top.

3. Las Vegas Aces (-2)

The Aces continue to look like a championship threat. Their offense remains among the most explosive in the league, capable of overwhelming opponents with clever shot creation and transition scoring. Interestingly, Las Vegas has been especially dangerous away from home, almost always turning difficult road trips into sure victories. The Aces are close enough to Minnesota in the standings that a strong week could push them into the top spot, meaning their ceiling remains as high as any team in the W. The only reason for their slide this week are because two teams in front of them rose.

4. New York Liberty (-2)

The Liberty remain among the elite teams in the WNBA despite a frustrating one-point loss to the Los Angeles Sparks and a shocking defeat at the hands of the young Mystics. New York has spent a lot of the season near the top of the standings recently thanks to strong perimeter play and a defense capable of shutting down quality opponents. The recent stumble keeps them just outside the top three, but there is little reason for the Liberty to panic long-term. This roster still possesses championship-level talent and experience, and they'll get right back on track.

5. Dallas Wings (=)

Dallas has been difficult to evaluate lately because the Wings can look dominant one night and ordinary the next. The talent level is undeniable, and their position in the standings reflects a team capable of making a significant playoff run. But consistency is the missing ingredient, as the team has bounced back and forth between wins and losses in its last seven games. When Dallas shares the ball and controls the glass, it looks like a top-four team. When those elements disappear, the Wings look vulnerable. Which version of themselves the Wings decide to stick to remains to be seen.

6. Golden State Valkyries (+1)

Rather than simply competing to follow up an unexpectedly successful first season with a solid outing, the Valkyries have spent much of this campaign battling for home-court position in the playoff race. Despite the impressive resilience in close games that they've displayed, they ran into two of the WNBA's top forces in the Lynx and Aces. But those two defeats followed a four-game win streak capped off by a decisive victory over the Wings. While they occasionally struggle against the league's deepest rosters, Golden State has firmly established itself as a postseason-caliber team.

7. Washington Mystics (+4)

No team gained more ground this week than the Mystics. They knocked off top competition back-to-back in the Liberty and Lynx and suddenly look far more dangerous than their 8-7 record suggests, moving up into the eighth and final playoff spot. Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen are continuing to grow into larger roles, and the team's confidence appears significantly higher than it was a month ago. Washington may still be outside the contender conversation, but teams should be weary of facing the Mystics right now.

8. Indiana Fever (-2)

Indiana finds itself in a similar situation as Dallas and Golden State. The Fever have flashed stretches of brilliant offensive basketball and continue to benefit from elite playmakers on their roster. But their challenge is maintaining that level against the league's best defenses, and they weren't able to do so in two straight losses to the Dream that came right after an impressive victory over the Toronto Tempo. Still, Indiana remains firmly in the playoff picture and has enough firepower to beat most opponents on a given night. However, the next few weeks could determine whether the Fever rise into true contender status.

9. Los Angeles Sparks (-1)

The Sparks earn a modest placement in the rankings after their dramatic victory over New York. LA has been better than its .500 record indicates, and the recent win could provide a much-needed confidence boost. The Sparks still have significant work ahead if they hope to re-enter the playoff race, but the talent level suggests improvement is possible.

10. Toronto Tempo (-1)

Toronto's inaugural season has featured plenty of ups and downs, but the Tempo continue to hold their own in a crowded middle tier. Strong shooting performances from Marina Mabrey, especially, have fueled many of their victories, and they remain competitive nearly every night. Defensive consistency remains the biggest obstacle to climbing higher in these rankings, though, as the Tempo gave up over 100 points in two of their last three. If Toronto can tighten that side of the floor, a playoff berth is well within reach.

11. Portland Fire (-1)

Portland has hovered around the playoff line and .500 mark for most of the season. This week's win helped the team get within one game of sitting even, but that narrow victory came against the struggling Seattle Storm. The Fire have shown impressive competitiveness for a new franchise, but they remain prone to inconsistency like a few other clubs in these rankings. Their record and current placement accurately reflects who they are: A capable team that can challenge a few stronger opponents but hasn't yet become a true threat.

12. Phoenix Mercury (+1)

Phoenix has experienced one of the league's toughest starts. Luckily, the team managed to break its four-game skid against a side that's somehow having an even harder start in the Storm. The Mercury still possess enough veteran talent to spoil playoff hopes for other teams, but climbing back into contention appears increasingly unlikely. At this point, development and stability may be more realistic goals for Phoenix's season.

13. Chicago Sky (-1)

The Sky's five-game losing streak has pushed them further into the bottom tier. Offensive inconsistency continues to haunt this team, especially against opponents with strong perimeter defenses. The Sky remain competitive at times but struggle to sustain quality play for a full forty minutes. Improvement from younger players is encouraging, but wins have still been difficult to come by. Chicago faces the Connecticut Sun next, which is one of its best chances at getting another win after claiming their last matchup.

14. Connecticut Sun (=)

The Sun have still not established any positive momentum, falling against the Mystics and Tempo this week. Rebuilding seasons can be difficult, and Connecticut is experiencing many of the challenges that accompany a major franchise transition. The focus should now shift toward creating a foundation for future seasons. While the standings are discouraging, the remainder of the year offers opportunities to evaluate long-term pieces.

15. Seattle Storm (=)

Seattle's 10-game losing streak reflects a season that has definitely not gone according to plan. The Storm have struggled on both ends of the floor and have found themselves constantly chasing games. There have been flashes of promise from younger players, but the overall results have been disappointing. Ending the current skid has to be their first priority.

The race for the top of the WNBA remains highly competitive, with Minnesota, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and New York continuing to set the standard heading into the final week of June. At the same time, other teams have injected fresh energy into the league and proven capable of competing on a nightly basis.

Several teams in the middle of the standings remain within striking distance of a playoff breakthrough, while others are switching their focus to building for the future. With weeks still remaining before the full postseason picture comes into focus, every game carries increased significance, making the next stretch one of the most important periods of the 2026 WNBA season.
