Here are three things to watch for and fun facts to amaze and entertain your friends with on Day 12 of the 2026 World Cup.

Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, or Lionel Messi (again)?

Last time Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, and Lionel Messi took the field on the same day, seven goals followed. What will happen when this trio of all-time great scorers hits their respective pitches this time? We can't wait to find out.

Haaland fits into his own category here, as this is his first World Cup. Still, just because he scored his first two World Cup goals last match doesn't mean he's any less fun to watch than his more decorated counterparts. The big Vikings' combination of size, speed, and skill is unlike anything we've ever seen in soccer, so enjoy watching it now.

As for Mbappe and Messi, they are chasing history and each other.

With 16 World Cup goals, Messi is now tied for the all-time lead with Germany's Miroslav Klose. Mbappe is just two behind, though, at 14. Those 14 goals have the Frenchman tied with Germany's Gerd Mueller and one behind Brazil's Ronaldo. Will Messi break the record today? Can Mbappe catch or even pass the Argentinian GOAT? We'll find out soon.

Argentina has a tough one against Austria on its hands

Austria took care of business 3-1 against Jordan in their first World Cup 20226 match, and they won't be an easy three points for Argentina like Algeria was. This is a critical match, as the winner will likely win Group J. Chances are, the Argentines won't get another hat trick from Messi, so they'll have to have other players step up.

If Argentina is to win and punch its ticket to the Knockout Stage, it'll need good performances and, even better, goals, from players such as Lautaro Martinez, Thiago Almada, and Enzo Fernandez. It would also be nice to see Julian Alvarez get on the pitch as the dangerous striker has been dealing with injuries.

Norway and Senegal will be the Game of the Day

Argentina vs. Austria will be a competitive match, but Norway vs. Senegal has the potential to be explosive. We saw Senegal lose to France 3-1 and Norway beat up on Iraq 4-1. So, if this one ended with a two-goal Norwegian advantage, it wouldn't be a total surprise.

That said, Senegal is a dangerous team with a nice mix of well-known veterans like Sadio Mane, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Idrissa Gueye, and talented youngsters like Bayern Munich's Nicholas Jackson, Monaco's Lamine Camara, and PSG's 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye, who scored his first World Cup goal against France.

Norway is the better team, but they are also inexperienced and have questions about their midfield and defense. Senegal is a team that has been there before, appearing in the last three World Cups. This shouls all make for a fun fixture.
