The New York Yankees have replaced veteran left-hander C.C. Sabathia on the ALCS roster after Sabathia suffered an apparent setback during Game 4 against the Houston Astros.

Right-hander Ben Heller will replace the veteran on the roster (via ESPN):

The New York Yankees officially removed CC Sabathia from the roster for the American League Championship Series on Friday, replacing him with right-handed reliever Ben Heller.

Sabathia would not be eligible to return should the Yankees get to the World Series, so the 39-year-old left-hander has made his final appearance in pinstripes.

The legend declared that the 2019 season would be his last in the major leagues, so his storied career has effectively reached its end. The 39-year-old will finish his career with 251 wins and 3,093 strikeouts.

Manager Aaron Boone called on Sabathia to pitch in the eighth inning of Game 4, and he nearly battled his way out of a jam. However, the veteran pulled up lame after inducing a popup from Astros infielder Aledmys Diaz. He attempted a few warmup pitches after being examined by the training staff, but was unable to continue. Sabathia was emotional as he left the game, and Yankees fans gave him a standing ovation:

Sabathia battled through injuries all season. He made just 22 starts for the Yankees and endured multiple stints on the Injured List in the pursuit of another World Series title. Sabathia won the World Series with New York in 2009.

After 19 years in the league, Sabathia will ride into the sunset. He is sure to draw some consideration for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
