With the Toronto Blue Jays finishing up a series against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday afternoon, the team is dealing with a myriad of injuries, though some have received key updates. As the Blue Jays deal with these updates, manager John Schneider gives the rundown on crucial players to the team.

Speaking to the media, Schneider would provide an update on Toronto center fielder Daulton Varsho, who has been on the 10-day injured list (IL) due to a left wrist injury. Schneider expressed how Varsho could return on Saturday, though some preparation will have to be done in the next few days, according to Shi Davidi.

“John Schneider says there’s a chance Daulton Varsho (left wrist) could be ready to return Saturday when he’s eligible, but he will ‘have to do a lot today and tomorrow,'” Davidi wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “If he isn’t activated sometime this weekend, possible he’ll need a rehab game or two.”

Last playing on June 9, Varsho has recorded a .256 batting average to go along with five home runs and 17 RBIs in 64 games, while another absent impact player is Addison Barger. Dealing with an elbow injury, Schneider would say how he is “progressing” through rehab games into this weekend or early next week, with infielder Lenyn Sosa (wrist) “a little behind him.”

“Addison Barger (elbow) continues progressing to rehab games either this weekend or early next week. Lenyn Sosa (wrist) is a little behind him, said Schneider,” Davidi wrote.

Blue Jays' Anthony Santander has yet to make his 2026 debut

As Barger hasn't played since May 9 and Sosa not since May 26, Anthony Santander hasn't made his 2026 season debut yet for the Blue Jays, recovering from shoulder surgery. However, he is “due to start hitting next week” and is “on track” to hit a return in August.

“He’s very, very aware of how he feels, so getting to the point to where you start hitting is a good thing, meaning you're feeling good,” Schneider said.

At any rate, it remains to be seen when Varsho, Barger, Sosa, and Santander officially return for Toronto.
