Late Tuesday night, news broke that former Portland Trail Blazer great Brandon Roy was injured in a shooting incident in California. Now on Wednesday, more information about the shooting have been reported.

According to USA TODAY Sports, Roy was visiting his grandmother when the shooting occurred. It was a random act of violence and Roy got shot while protecting children that were in his grandmother's home.

USA TODAY Sports' Sam Amick reported that Roy was shot in the leg near his grandmother's house, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

The person requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Roy was shielding some of the young people who were there, the person said.
