For NBA players, traveling and long plane rides are something they have been accustomed to. Although it may not be their favorite, they have no choice as the season calls for it, especially with half of their games on the road. Good thing for them, their teams have their own aircrafts to provide them more comfort and better suit their needs.

However, that is not the case when they board commercial flights. Despite being in first-class, it is still not made for tall individuals like them, but they still prefer it than being in economy. Milwaukee Bucks big man Thon Maker was faced with a dilemma recently, as he had to choose between giving up his first-class seat or delay a flight longer.

Thinking of the welfare of many, Maker made a big sacrifice and crammed himself in an economy seat, as narrated by Paul Kuzma, a distant cousin of Lakers rookie Kyle Kuzma, in his Facebook post. He even described how their conversations went, and how the 7-foot-1 big man had to stand up a couple of times to make room for the snack cart.

Maker’s experience during the flight may not make a lot of headlines, but it only goes to show how he remains humble despite his fame and stature. There may not be a lot of professional athletes like him who would do the same sacrifice, yet he did not hesitate in doing so as he had the best interest of the other passengers in mind when he made the decision.

The 20-year-old is coming off a decent rookie campaign where he averaged 4.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in 57 regular season games. However, he successfully showed off his impressive skill set even more during the playoffs, playing 19.3 minutes per game, and producing 5.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.8 blocks.

If Thon Maker can continue his strong showing next year, he could be in line to see extended playing time night in and night out, and help further establish the Bucks as one of the league’s teams of the future. One thing that’s certain as well, is he now has more people cheering for him, as the passengers of the flight he was in recently are now his fans.
