Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel revealed on Friday that he was shocked when Harry Kane ultimately stayed at Tottenham this season despite the rumors that he was heading to Manchester City. Via Goal:

“I thought that this is going to happen,” he said. “No I was not scared, but if it would have happened I would have been very interested in how maybe it would have changed Manchester City’s style of playing.”

While the Chelsea tactician isn't exactly excited to be facing Kane, he did voice his respects for the Englishman staying at the same club:

“On one side I was happy that he stayed because it is also nice that it exists in football that players play for one club only and so Harry Kane is Tottenham. Even for me I have absolutely nothing to do with Tottenham, I have never worked for them, when I think about Tottenham in the last decade you think about Harry Kane and this is very nice.”

Of course, Chelsea visit Spurs on Sunday in the London Derby, with the Blues looking to continue their unbeaten run to begin the Premier League campaign. The club was briefly linked with Kane in the summer as well, but Tuchel made it clear they never actually even looked into the thought of making a run at the Tottenham hitman.

“We never had a list with his name on it and I never went to Marina [Granovskaia, Chelsea director] to tell her to buy him.”

Instead, Chelsea went out and signed former player Romelu Lukaku, who has been a breath of fresh air in his second stint at Stamford Bridge after two brilliant seasons with Inter Milan. The Belgian has already bagged four goals in as many appearances across all competitions. Early on, he looks to be the answer to the Blues' goal-scoring woes.

Despite Thomas Tuchel's admiration of Harry Kane, he will be hoping his Chelsea backline can shut down the Spurs talisman this weekend.
