New Delaware State women's basketball coach Khadijah Rushdan has unveiled her coaching staff for her inaugural season. The staff features several coaches with significant experience across multiple levels of the NCAA, as well as a returning face. Rushdan has hired Alisha Mosley, Skyler Delgado, and Lou Hamilton as assistant coaches. Meanwhile, Sherelle Dennis returns to the team as director of operations and an assistant coach. Kalia Garcia is returning as an executive assistant, receiving a promotion.
Alisha Mosley
Mosley joins the Hornets after building a diverse résumé in collegiate athletics that includes coaching, administration, player development and program rebuilding. She said she is thankful for the opportunity to work alongside Rushdan and contribute to the program's future.
“I am incredibly grateful to Coach Rushdan for this opportunity and for the confidence she has shown in me. To work alongside a Delaware basketball legend as she returns home is both humbling and exciting. I believe wholeheartedly in her vision for this program and the culture she is building. I'm honored to support her as we work to rewrite the program's legacy, restore a winning tradition, and create something that our student-athletes, alumni, and community can be proud of for years to come.”
Rushdan highlighted Mosley's experience as both a coach and administrator, noting that her background at HBCUs and understanding of student-athlete development will be a valuable asset as the program works to establish its culture.
“Alishia's background as both a head coach and an administrator gives her a well-rounded lens that immediately elevates our program. Having attended and worked within an HBCU environment, she brings a deep appreciation for culture, student-athlete experience, and program building with purpose. Her perspective brings valuable insight and intentionality that immediately raises the standard. I am thrilled to welcome Alishia to Hornet Nation.”
Skyler Delgado
Delgado also begins his first season with the Hornets after coaching stops across the Division I, Division III and NJCAA ranks. His experience includes player development, recruiting and film analysis. Rushdan described Delgado as one of the profession's emerging young coaches, praising his basketball knowledge, work ethic and ability to contribute in multiple areas of the program, including recruiting, player development and relationship-building.
“Skyler is a rising star in our profession. He possesses an exceptional basketball mind, a tremendous work ethic, and the ability to contribute to every facet of our program. Whether it's player development, recruiting, graphics, or simply relationship building, his attention to detail and proactiveness immediately sets him apart. I'm thrilled to welcome Skyler to Hornet Nation,” Rushdan said.
Delgado also spoke about receiving the opportunity to join the Hornets coaching staff.
“I'm extremely grateful to Coach KD for the opportunity to join the Delaware State women's basketball program. I believe fully in her vision for where this program is headed, and I'm excited to get to work and help bring that vision to life,” Delgado said.
Lou Hamilton
Hamilton arrives in Dover with 14 years of NCAA coaching experience and extensive familiarity with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. His background includes previous head coaching experience and years spent working within the league.
According to Rushdan, Hamilton's experience and leadership qualities will provide significant value to both the coaching staff and student-athletes. She also pointed to his understanding of the MEAC as an important addition to the program.
“Lou brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and leadership to our program. His previous head coaching experience, combined with his familiarity in the MEAC and understanding of what it takes to build and sustain success in this league, will be invaluable to our staff and student-athletes. Lou has already made an immediate impact through his work ethic, insight, and ability to connect with people. I am thrilled to welcome Lou to Hornet Nation,” Rushdan said
Cherelle Dennis
Dennis returns to Delaware State after serving on the Hornets' staff from 2022 to 2025. During her previous tenure, she played a key role in recruiting, player development and day-to-day operations while helping several student-athletes earn conference recognition.
Among the players she helped develop were Savannah Brooks, who earned MEAC All-Rookie Team honors during the 2023-24 season, Ericka Huggins, who received the same recognition in 2024-25, Ja'naiah Perkins Jackson, an All-MEAC selection in 2023-24, and Kiarra McElrath, who was named to the All-MEAC Third Team in 2024-25.
Dennis called her return to Delaware State a “full circle moment” and said Rushdan's vision for rebuilding the program was a major factor in her decision to come back.
“Returning to Delaware State is truly a full circle moment for me. Having the opportunity to coach alongside Coach Rushdan as she works to transform this program is something I am incredibly excited about. Her vision, leadership, and commitment to restoring a winning culture played a pivotal role in my decision to return. I wholeheartedly believe in what we are building and look forward to helping bring renewed energy, success, and excitement back to Delaware State Women's Basketball,” Dennis said.
Reshdan added, “Cherelle brings a wealth of experience and returns to DSU already making an immediate impact. I have known Cherelle for years, and she consistently builds genuine and meaningful relationships. She embodies the culture we want every day through her energy, competitive spirit, and commitment to not only this program but also our student-athletes. I am thrilled to welcome Cherelle back to DSU.”
