The Los Angeles Dodgers have been a rumored destination for superstar third baseman Anthony Rendon, but it appears that they also have interest in another star at the hot corner.

Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers are among the teams expected to pursue former Atlanta Braves third baseman Josh Donaldson:

One option the Dodgers are considering is signing free-agent third baseman Josh Donaldson, according to people with knowledge of the team’s thinking. MLB.com has reported that the Washington Nationals, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves are also pursuing Donaldson, the 2015 American League most valuable player and three-time All-Star.

Justin Turner has manned third base for the last few seasons, but he has also dealt with injuries and previously stated that he would be open to a position change.

The most likely route–should the Dodgers sign Donaldson–would result in Turner moving to first base and Max Muncy finding a more permanent home at second.

Of course, this creates some crowding in the middle infield. Gavin Lux figures to be part of next year's plans. Corey Seager is the current shortstop, and then there are a number of platoon guys like Chris Taylor and Enrique Hernandez, to name a few.

With that in mind, the Dodgers are also rumored to be pursuing Francisco Lindor. They could sign Donaldson and then trade the likes of Seager, Alex Verdugo, Dustin May or Keibert Ruiz to the Indians for Lindor while also looking for other deals to get a potential return on Taylor or Hernandez if they so choose.

Donaldson had a big year after signing a one-year contract with Atlanta in 2019, and his bounce-back season could very well lead to a more lucrative, multi-year deal in free agency.
