Retired Filipino Dota 2 professional player Heinrich “Heinrich” Abad has died on Sunday, June 6, at age 29. Abad was diagnosed with acute monoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the blood and the blood marrow. According to his fiancé, Bev Sausal, Abad was rushed to the hospital on May 12 and was then diagnosed with sickness. He died in the early hours of Sunday.

Abad rose to prominence for being one of the first Dota 2 players to ever reach 6,000 MMR back in 2014. He topped the Southeast Asia MMR Leaderboards at his peak. Abad played for Arcanys Gaming from 2013 to 2016. During his time with the team, he played with Marvin “Boomy” Rushton and Jun “Bok” Kanehara, both of whom currently play with TNC Predator. He played the carry and midlaner roles before retiring from the competitive scene when he left Arcanys Gaming in 2016.

In spite of not competing in recent years, the Dota 2 community honored the Dota 2 pro. During the last few weeks of his life, Dota 2 communities organized donation drives to help his family cope with his hospital expenses. Teams and organizations such as Team Secret elicited donations on behalf of the family. Upon his death, Filipino players part of the WePlay AniMajor paid their tributes to Abad. Various organizations and teams internationally also recognized Abad's achievements during his time as a professional player.
