Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell has been day-to-day with a left ankle sprain, but the team is now saying their dynamic second-year guard is probable for Wednesday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Mitchell is averaging 22.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game this season. Early on, he's looking like the same player he was last season.

Mitchell has missed two of the last three games — both losses. The Jazz are riding a four-game losing streak and are owners of a 4-6 record. It's hard to forecast how things will shake out in the Western Conference, but the Jazz were expected to be a playoff team this year. Many expected them to take a step forward after their surprising run to the second round of the playoffs last season.

If Utah hopes to build on last season's success, Mitchell will be a big part of it. Making sure he's 100 percent healthy should be a top priority. His emergence as a star last season spurred the Jazz to a scorching hot finish and the fifth seed in the Western Conference.

With an influx of talent and the usual suspects looming in the West, this year won't be any easier for Mitchell and co. But if Donovan Mitchell can take another step forward after a fantastic rookie season, they'll be a tough out for anyone in the playoffs.
