There is a freshly-painted mural on the corner of Melrose and Ogden in Los Angeles, California. This new artwork features LeBron James gazing up at some of the greatest players to ever wear Los Angeles Lakers uniforms, including Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, and Magic Johnson.

Curiously, though, Jerry West (the Logo) and James Worthy were left out.

As most hoops fans know by now, James, now 33 years of age, decided to join the Lakers shortly after the 2018 NBA season. He's been featured in other murals around L.A. since then, including one that labeled him as ā€œThe King of L.A.ā€ Sadly, some of those renderings were vandalized, so the artists (Jonas Never and Menso) decided to whitewash the entire wall.

The Lakers are a prestigious organization, as most hoops fans know. In fact, the franchise has 16 championship banners hanging in the rafters of the Staples Center. L.A. fans have endured ups and downs in recent seasons, sure. However, with James on the squad with their talented, young core, they'll be looking to make a run at the Western Conference Playoffs.

Last season, James played in all 82 regular season games (all starts), marking the first time he's accomplished that feat. In an average of 36.9 minutes per contest, the Kid from Akron racked up averages of 27.5 points on 54.2 percent shooting from the field (36.7 percent from beyond the arc), 9.1 assists, 8.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and just under one block (0.9).

Hopefully, this new artwork won't suffer the same fate as its predecessors, and James will prove the doubters wrong.
