Though he may not be a household name outside of the Delaware Valley, Quinyon Mitchell might just be the Philadelphia Eagles' best-kept secret on defense.

Need proof? Look no further than The Mina Kimes Show, where its namesake host went to bat for the Eagles' cornerback as one of the most impressive young players in the NFL going today.

“Quinyon Mitchell is so freaking good at football. -.16 EPA per target, which was second, despite having zero interceptions. That's so insane,” Kimes declared. “The fact that he finished that high despite not getting his hands… he got his hands on the football; he had a lot of passes defensed, he just didn't come down with it, which is the one area, you know, you want to see from him. He also, this is one of my favorite stats of his, he allowed 1.8 yards after catch per reception, which was first amongst every quarterback in football. He had a 42% tight window rate, which was first again. The NFL average is 25%. The dude is like glue. I mean, he is so, so complete as a corner. He just needs to get some interceptions.”

CBS Sports' JP Acosta also commented on Mitchell's play, noting that if the Eagles' pass rush remains competitive, they have a chance to be one of the best defenses in the NFL.

“I think the coolest thing about having Quinyon Mitchell, and I think the coolest thing about what Vic Fangio did this season compared to last season is they played more man coverage this year,” Acosta said. “They are willing to leave Quinyon Mitchell on an island and just let him go to work. And I think that aggression is something that Vic Fangio teams aren't really known for. They're more of a sit back. We're going to play everything in front of us, but the fact that they're able to play more man coverage with Mitchell, I think that's just going to benefit the pass rush even more. If Jonathan Grenard can be the guy that Jaelan Phillips was, I mean, this defense is going to take off.”

Despite being drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Mitchell wasn't guaranteed to become the next great young cornerback star, with some experts believing that Terrion Arnold, Nate Wiggins, or even Kool-Aid McKinstry were better picks at the time. While Mitchell doesn't get interceptions at a high level, there's a reason he's been nicknamed Quintanamo Bay: receivers on his island are never heard from.
