Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic's game-winning triple over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday was not just out of sheer luck. Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle can attest to this since he has already coughed up a lot of dough for losing shooting bets to the two-time All-Star.
Carlisle revealed this hilarious story after Doncic gifted the Mavs a last-second 114-113 victory over the Grizzlies.
“I can’t tell you how many thousands of dollars I’ve lost to him because of halfcourt shots. One time in Mexico City I paid him off in pesos I was so pissed.”
Half-court shooting bets among players and coaches are not an uncommon occurrence among NBA teams. While some wager extra practice times or weight room sessions, it looks like the Mavs prefer betting real money during these times.

Carlisle probably knows better by now, considering Luka is a straight-up hustler on these bets. The thought of Carlisle using a different currency to pay off his debt paints an extremely hilarious picture.
Apart from getting deeper pockets, it looks like Doncic's half-court shooting practice has paid off for the Mavs.
The 22-year-old playmaker from Slovenia has been so used to sinking long-range bombs that he even drilled an off-balanced game-winner over Memphis. Doncic had little time (not to mention zero balance) to get a shot off, but he managed to steal the victory from the Grizz with that ridiculous clutch shot.
Coach Carlisle, meanwhile, probably doesn't mind losing money if it means Doncic will continue coming up big for his team every time.
