At the beginning of May, it seemed veteran left tackle Jason Peters was destined to return to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles and Peters reportedly had a mutual interest in a return after Philadelphia previously allowed Peters to explore the free-agent market. However, Peters remained unsigned, and the Eagles had shown uncertainty with respect to Andre Dillard as the starting left tackle.

However, the Eagles have some competition for Peters. James Palmer of NFL Network reported Tuesday Peters has also been in contact with the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, and Denver Broncos.

There is little explanation required as to why each of the three AFC squads would want Peters on the roster.

The Browns have made upgrading the offensive line their top priority, signing right tackle Jack Conklin and drafting Jedrick Wills. The Browns have plenty of cap space, and signing Peters would allow Wills (who mostly played right tackle at Alabama) to get better acquainted at the position.

Meanwhile, the Jets and Broncos both have young quarterbacks looking to make strides. New York has been active in boosting their offensive line, and they need a more assertive presence as they hope to improve their rushing attack while protecting Sam Darnold.

The Broncos added guard Graham Glasgow, but they lost Connor McGovern to the Jets. Signing Peters would give Drew Lock some blind-side protection in his first full season as the starter in Denver. Considering the Broncos made a point of adding weapons at the skill positions, they might now look to bolster the line.

For his part, Peters wants to play into his 40s. The two-time All-Pro has dealt with some injuries in recent years, but he is still one of the best offensive tackles in football. Any of these squads would do well to bring him into the fold.
