Phil Mickelson is still chasing a US Open win. He's come up short in winning this major a number of times before, and his shortcomings in the tournament are well documented. Well, here he is again, trying to grind out on a weekend to improve his chances of winning the only major trophy missing in his collection of achievements. Mickelson enters Saturday's phase of the 2021 US Open tied for 31st place with 14 other golfers, who are sharing an identical 2-over par score at Torrey Pines.

Even Phil Mickelson is way behind the current leaders, Richard Bland and Russell Henley (both sporting 5-under par scores), Lefty believes he will play good enough this weekend and get a shot at finally exorcising his demons in the US Open on Sunday.

“I didn’t make enough birdies today, but I’m hitting the ball well enough to get birdies on the weekend,” said Mickelson. “I was hitting a lot of good shots, a lot of fairways and was able to drive the ball aggressively for the most part.”

Phil Mickelson has six major championships under his belt with three Master Tournament wins, a couple of PGA Championships, including the one he won late last May, and a British Open title. He has a total of six runner-up finishes in the US Open, and he's hoping that he would come up with a strong performance this weekend to end the drought.
