Angel Hernandez is one of the most infamous referees in the MLB… for all the wrong reasons. Fans, players, and managers all take issue with his rather liberal strike zone judgment. Kyle Schwarber and the Philadelphia Phillies got another taste of the Hernandez experience in their match against the Milwaukee Brewers.

During the ninth inning of their match, the Phillies star was up on the plate against Brewers closer Josh Hader. With a full count, Hader delivered a dart on the lower outside corner. The strike zone display showed it was out of the zone. However, as Kyle Schwarber was walking to first base, Angel Hernandez called it a strike, angering the batter and getting ejected in the process. (via Foul Pole Sports)

Schwarber was absolutely heated at Hernandez, and it's easy to see why. The Phillies were down a single run in that game with just one out. Drawing a walk there would have put immense pressure on the pitcher, as there's a tying run on base and the potential for a walk-off home run. Instead, Schwarber did not get the call, and he blew up at Hernandez. Philadelphia would proceed to lose the game, adding more insult to injury.

The Phillies went on a massive retooling in the off-season, grabbing stars like Nick Castellanos to bolster their hitting. Unfortunately, their bats have failed them on multiple occasions this year. They're hoping that Schwarber, Castellanos, and the hitting staff will get their act together soon… and perhaps get a few more umpire calls in their favor.
