Rajon Rondo‘s stint with the Dallas Mavericks two seasons ago was considered a disaster by many. It can be recalled that he had a much-publicized disagreement with some team officials and was not able to finish the season as he was sidelined due to an apparent injury he suffered.

However, even if things did not pan out according to plan for both parties, Rondo still gave a lot of praise for the Mavs' head coach, Rick Carlisle. The former 21st pick of the 2006 draft recently talked about the respect he has for him and even called him a “champion.”

“He's a champion, You can't take that from me. You can't take that from him. It just didn't work out, that two champions couldn't figure it out.

“I have a lot of respect for Rick. Just because things don't go well doesn't mean you hate a person or that the media perception is right. Rick and I had a good relationship in the beginning. We tried to work it out. I worked with him every day on my shot. We watched film together. Not every marriage works. It was a learning process.”

Both Rondo and the franchise have since moved on and are on separate paths now. The four-time All-Star has brought his talents to the Chicago Bulls and is helping his new team compete in the Eastern Conference. The Mavericks, on the other hand, have had a miserable start to their season and currently own the worst record in the league at 3-13.

It will be interesting to see how Carlisle will welcome his former player when Rondo and the Bulls visit Dallas on Saturday. It is also worth monitoring how the crowd will react when once they see him on the court especially after his comments for their head coach.
