Boston Red Sox star pitcher Garrett Crochet is still not ready to give it a go on the mound, but there he is reportedly trending in the right direction.

Before Monday's series opener against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy provided an update on the 27-year-old Crochet, who was placed by the Boston on the 60-day injured list because of a shoulder issue.

“Garrett Crochet won’t begin throwing yet, Chad Tracy said,” reported Tim Healey of The Boston Globe, via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

“He had a scheduled reevaluation of his shoulder today, and it showed that he is ‘improving,' per Tracy. But not enough to take that next step.”

The Red Sox can certainly use some good news on that front. Crochet was put on the injured list in April before suffering a low-grade left lat strain in June, further complicating this return to action.

It has been a terrible season so far for Boston, and if the Red Sox continue on their downward spiral, the team's approach in Garrett  Crochet's return from injury may get even more interesting.

The Red Sox entered Monday coming off a 3-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners on the road to close out a series (which Boston won) on Sunday, and with just a 31-44 record.

Boston is dead last in the American League East standings, 14.5 games off the top. But if the Red Sox cobble together wins and finish the first half of the season strong, the urgency to get Crochet back could intensify.
