The Los Angeles Angels are ready for their homecoming as they host their home opener against the Boston Red Sox on Friday at Angels Stadium in Anaheim. We're here to share our MLB odds series, make a Red Sox-Angels prediction, and pick while showing you how to watch.

The Red Sox defeated the Oakland Athletics 1-0 on Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep. Somehow, the only run on Wednesday came from a sacrifice fly from Emmanuel Valdez. Nick Pivetta tossed five innings of shutout baseball while allowing just four hits. Then, the bullpen combined for four shutout innings, including a save from Kenley Jansen.

The Angels defeated the Miami Marlins 10-2 to complete a three-game sweep. Now, they are 4-2 after the offense exploded, giving their pitching staff a lot of buffer room. The Halos did it with singles and sacrifice flies. Additionally, they got 5 2/3 innings from Patrick Sandoval, who allowed two earned runs on four hits while striking out seven.

The Angels won the season series against the Red Sox in 2023, going 4-3, and plan to get off on the right foot in 2024. Furthermore, they won all three games against the Sox at Angels Stadium.

Kutter Crawford will make the start for the Red Sox and is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA with seven strikeouts. Recently, he tossed six innings while allowing one run, none earned, on three hits while striking out seven in a no-decision against the Seattle Mariners. Crawford is 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA over three career games against the Angels.

Griffin Canning makes the start for the Angels and is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA. Unfortunately, he struggled in his first outing, going five innings while allowing five earned runs on seven hits in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles. But Canning is 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA over two starts against the Sox.

Why The Red Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Red Sox will try and generate some offense in this game. While they did beat the A's to complete the sweep, their offense was anemic. Therefore, they need to find ways to get more runners across the plate.

Jarren Duran has been amazing in the leadoff spot. So far, he is batting .393 with two RBIs and four runs while also stealing six bases. Duran will try and set up and set up some chances for Rafael Devers. Yet, he is off to a bad start. Devers is hitting .217 with one home run, two RBIs, and three runs. Therefore, Boston hopes he can pick it up. Trevor Story is another hitter who is on a slow start. Currently, he is hitting .241 with four RBIs and one run.

Assuming the Red Sox can score and get a lead, they need their relievers to shut the door down. Ultimately, they fared relatively well against the Athletics, not allowing a single run in three games.

The Red Sox will cover the spread if their offense can bring more runners home. Then, after Crawford leaves the game, they need the bullpen to pitch well.

Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Halos looked amazing in their three-game series against the Marlins, which was a stark contrast to how they played against the Orioles. The Angels need to replicate that energy and also have a good outing from Canning. But first, his lineup must give him some run support.

Mike Trout is off to a hot start. So far, he is batting .273 with three home runs, three RBIs, and four runs while stealing one base. The Angels hope Trout can do well to keep things going. Meanwhile, Logan O'Hoppe is on fire, batting .438 with two RBIs and three runs. Nolan Schanuel is struggling to start the season. Unfortunately, he is hitting just .188 with one home run, one RBI, and three runs. But he has drawn five walks, which is good for helping the Angels pack the bases. Conversely, Taylor Ward is off to another good start. Ward is hitting .320 with three home runs, eight RBIs, and six runs. Therefore, look for him to try and keep his momentum going.

But the Angels need their bullpen to hold up and pitch well. Significantly, after struggling against the Orioles, the relievers allowed just one earned run over three games against the Marlins.

The Angels will cover the spread if Canning can give them a quality start and go six innings while allowing three earned runs. Then, the offense needs to clobber the ball off Crawford.

Final Red Sox-Angels Prediction & Pick

Neither team is expected to be good. However, both have gotten off to good starts. Their record stands out because both have played bad teams. As for this game, both starting pitchers have done well during this matchup. Additionally, the offenses have struggled when both pitchers have done well in this match. Expect the Angels to perform well in their home opener, continuing the energy they built in Miami. The Angels win this game and cover the spread.
