Outfielder Nick Castellanos has opted out of his contract with the Cincinnati Reds, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. The 29-year-old was set to receive $32 million over the next two seasons, yet is looking for a new long-term deal. Entering free agency, the All-Star is poised to be a prized target for myriad teams looking to bolster their outfields and power in the lineup.

After a tough outing during the 2020 shortened season, Castellanos bounced back in 2021, batting .309/.362/.576, with a career-high 34 home runs alongside 100 RBI. Additionally, he had 38 doubles and even has displayed in the past the ability to garner a strong amount of triples. The outfielder was amongst the best hitters in the National League and proved to be must-watch television with fellow All-Star Jesse Winker.

Though defense has been a weak point in Castellanos' game, the All-Star showcased significant improvement. With his bat being his most wanted skill set anyway, the defensive liabilities truly do not matter as much.

The Reds outfielder has shown his consistent ability to hit for power, while maintaining a respectable batting average. His prior Detroit Tiger days exhibited Castellanos' ability to hit 20+ home runs and hold a BA over .270. Entering the prime years of his career, Nick Castellanos will be a desired player for baseball teams around the league.
