The Chicago White Sox starting rotation, set to be one of the best in the American League, has been bit by the injury bug in the early parts of the season, as front-line starters Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn have each been sidelined by injuries. While Giolito is only expected to miss his next two starts due to an abdominal injury, Lynn is dealing with a knee injury that will sideline him for at least the next four weeks. Given their championship aspirations, it's understandable that Chicago looked into the starting pitcher trade market. The club has inquired about Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Frankie Montas, who has been the subject of trade rumors. However, the White Sox have balked at this Athletics' trade demand, per MLB Trade Rumors and Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Manaea has since been dealt to the Padres, with USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reporting that the White Sox “nearly” landed Manaea instead, and are still looking at Montas.  However, the A’s want young slugger Andrew Vaughn back in return, and the Sox are balking at the demand.

The White Sox have looked into Sean Manaea, who was dealt to the San Diego Padres, and Montas. However, the Athletics are seeking slugger Andrew Vaughn in return, a move Chicago is seemingly unwilling to make.

Vaughn, 24, was ranked as the club's top prospect and the number-14 prospect in the game. He made his first big league appearance last year, clubbing 15 homers in 127 games for Chicago.

It's quite a price for the White Sox to pay for the Athletics' Montas, though the right-hander is still just 29 and coming off of career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts.

Given the Athletics' asking price for Montas, it seems unlikely that the White Sox will get a deal done for his services.
